Classified Service positions readily available at the university are within the purview of NYS Civil Service. Some positions are within the competitive class service and some are non-competitive or labor class.


Competitive and non-competitive jobs are posted as contractually required for the required variety of days and, in basic, university employees are thought about first for vacancies.

Plant Utilities Assistant And Plant Utilities Engineer 1

Competitive


The competitive class consists of all positions for which it is practical to figure out the benefit and fitness of candidates by competitive (civil service) assessment. Most clerical positions fall within this class as do most support personnel positions. *** To be qualified to use to the traineeship, candidates need to have one year of irreversible service as a Grade 6 Office Assistant and are required to pass a typing test. If you have previous eligible service in a keyboarding title, the typing test is waived. If you are presently an SG-11 Administrative Assistant 1, you may obtain a lateral transfer.


NY HELPS: Above titles with NY HELPS consisted of in the name are part of the New york city Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).


- For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled through a non-competitive consultation, which means no evaluation is needed but all prospects should satisfy the minimum certifications of the title for which they use.


- Beginning June 26, 2024, all visits made under this program will be handled as long-term, non-competitive positions and the main probationary period will begin on the appointment date.


- At a future date (within one year of irreversible visit), it is expected employees employed under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without needing to complete in an evaluation. Employees will then be managed with all of the exact same rights and opportunities of competitive class workers of New york city State. While serving completely in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promo evaluation for which they are qualified.


THERE IS NO EXAM REQUIRED FOR NY HELPS APPOINTMENTS


Non-Competitive


This class consists of those positions for which the State Civil Service Commission has actually identified that it is not useful to hold a competitive (civil service) evaluation. However, all must meet minimum credentials. Positions in this group include "journeymen" level positions on the maintenance support personnel such as carpenter, electrician or mechanic. Appointment to greater salaried uninhabited positions are made on the basis of seniority. University staff members are given first factor to consider for CSEA-OSU non-competitive vacancies.


Labor Class


Labor class positions have no minimum educational or experience requirements. University staff members are provided first consideration for these positions.


Civil Service Examinations
